I was like everyone else when Adam Yauch, MCA from the Beastie Boys, died last Friday. I spent the day listening to Beastie Boys and posting my thoughts on social media. I wrote something quick on how amazing the Beastie Boys are because they cross generations and genres, touching so many people.
And then today I stumbled upon how Coldplay paid tribute to Youk by playing “Fight for Your Right.” If you know me, you know I hate Coldplay. So my reaction before I even listened to it was pretty awful. And then I listened. They turned “Fight for Your Right” into a ballad, which in itself really destroys the power of the song. Coldplay just brutalized the song. I tried to listen to the whole thing, but I turned it off.
Me being me and as upset as I was, I took to Twitter about it. A lot of people said they like the sentiment of it, which is fine.

But did they really need to have to slaughter the song?
So I’ve been listening to the Beastie Boys ever since. I listened to Paul’s Boutique earlier and am now on my second listening of Licensed to Ill (the first Beasties album I ever owned).
Other than the Beasties today, I listened to Metric’s Fantasies this morning. When I logged onto Spotify, I saw Metric had something new. It inspired me to listen to the old album, which I always like. I also listened to some random Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs this morning after hearing “Y Control” on Alt Nation this morning. And I had the Foo Fighters “Wasting Light” on in the car during my commute.
What are you listening to today?
