October Snow, a set on Flickr.
I’m not a big fan of snow, especially in October, but I was miserable in other ways on Saturday. My ear is aching more than it has in years, bringing me back to memories of my childhood.
I was one of those kids who had ear infections often. I hated, and still hate, ear drops. A heating pad is the only thing that helps the pain, but I don’t know if that’s because it’s a nostalgic feeling. But, most often, the ear infections hit during a snow storm.
My dad will tell you stories how the ear infections always were at their worst on a Sunday during a snow storm. I still don’t know how to this day I got to even see a doctor on those days, but my dad will tell you how back then there was only one drug store open late on Sundays. That would be Dr. X in the Trumbull Mall (which isn’t there any more, but I vividly remember that store).
So when I shot these photos yesterday, I started thinking about those snowy days because my ear was hurting. I called my dad about it and we had a good laugh. Unfortunately, I won’t be laughing when I have to go to the doctor about this pain.
Great photos, Jen! I particularly love the ones of the Halloween decorations in the snow. There’s something so incongruous about that…although, in the snow, it does look like it’s almost a real cemetery.
Sorry about your ear! Hope you get better. We were so cold in this house it took me back to memories, too…of college, when I couldn’t afford oil for my house in winter, and I’d be sleeping on the bathroom floor with the shower running all hot in an effort to stay warm. Ugh. I never want to repeat that experience again.
Let’s talk soon!
I thought the same thing about the Halloween decorations in the snow too. It looks real rather than fake.
And oof on the no heat in the winter. Living in an old house, I’ve lost heat a few times during the winter (one time it was off and on for a few days before being fixed). It’s not a fun experience, and there are people without heat now because they have no power. I hope the power is restored for everyone real soon.
