Twitter is a wonderful thing to find out about cool things you otherwise might not know about. It’s how I learned about Music Diary 2012. If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know music is an important part of my world. I have a soundtrack to my life. There are songs, albums and bands I associate with times in my life, specific events and the people around me.
So it makes perfect sense to write about the music I’m listening to this week.
Here’s what I’ve listened to thus far today:
Foo Fighters, Wasting Light
I listened to this in the car on the way to work this morning. It is one of my favorite Foo Fighters albums and is on regular rotation in my car, but as a hockey fan I’m also superstitious. I play this album on every Rangers playoff game day too. I’m sure to listen to it on the way home from work today too.
The Gaslight Anthem, The ’59 Sound
Like Wasting Light, this is my favorite Gaslight Anthem album. I’ve recently become a Gaslight Anthem fan in the last year. Not surprising since they’re a New Jersey band and that’s where I live now. There’s a song on the album that has the line “standing in the Jersey rain,” which fits how I’m feeling about life today.
Nirvana Spotify playlist
I’ve listened to my Nirvana Spotify playlist several times in a row now (I probably should switch it up), and “Smells Light Teen Spirit” has been playing as I write this. As I’ve written before, Nirvana was an important band to my teenage years. There’s something about listening to this playlist, which has some of my favorite songs from them, takes me to a good place where life was simpler and easier.
I’m not quite sure what else I’ll listen to today, but I’m sure to listen to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” this afternoon. Stop laughing because there’s a method to my madness. This song started as a joke and has become a superstitious ritual on Rangers playoff game days. It also brings fond memories back of working at Patch and makes me smile.
